Macon residents plan vigil to remember Orlando shooting

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – There will be a vigil Monday night at Tattnall Square Park in Macon to remember the Orlando shooting that happened over the weekend.

As of Sunday, officials said the shooting killed 50 and sent 53 others to the hospital.

Police have identified 29-year-old Omar Mateen of Port St. Lucie, Florida.

Mateen died in a shoot out with officers around 5 a.m. Sunday.

Macon resident Bentley Hudgins has organized a vigil to remember the victims of the attack.

It will be Monday at 8 p.m. at the stone terrace in the park.

Organizers encourage people to bring candles if they would like, but to more importantly, bring love.

The event details section reads “tonight we will remember the victims and their loved ones. It’s an especially hard time for everyone, but we are in a community that loves each other.”
