Macon Police Recieve New Cars and Radios
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Macon police are decked out in new cars and new radios.
On Friday officials unveiled the new 26 police cars equipped with 800 MHz radios. The new system will help officers communicate whether its with the men in blue, other outside law enforcement agencies, the fire department, and other first responders.
The police department used to only have one radio, so this upgrade will help them stay in touch with everyone in case of an emergency.
“Now its just a matter of reaching over, flipping a dial and we all talk and it increases our safety,” Cpt. Eric Woodford said. “It increases the times when we have disasters and we have emergencies. We don’t have to scramble, we all can communicate now.”
The new equipment is paid for with penny tax dollars. The cars will get a makeover when MPD merges with the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.
