Macon man dies after being rolled over by vehicle in parking lot

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Bibb County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating a fatal pedestrian accident that happened in the parking lot of Tom’s Mart on Mercer University Drive. Investigators say the accident reportedly happened around 9:30 p.m. Thursday.

Investigators say witnesses report that 65-year-old Robert Leo Williams of Macon was riding with two other people to the store. The driver stopped in the parking lot.

Deputies say Williams got out of the vehicle and the driver decided to pull into a parking space. Williams thought that the driver was leaving him behind.

Deputies say as the driver pulled forward, Williams ran back towards the vehicle, attempted to open the rear door, stumbled, and then fell under the vehicle. The vehicle rolled over Williams.

Authorities say Robert Leo Williams was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

This accident is under investigation. There are no charges pending at this time.
