Macon man convicted of child molestation, sentenced to life in prison

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A Bibb County jury convicted a Macon man on child molestation charges.

According to District Attorney David Cooke, it took the jury less than 15 minutes to come to its decision. The jury convicted 50-year-old Winston Eugene Watkins of one count of aggravated child molestation and three counts of child molestation.

Watkins was sentenced to life in prison without parole, plus 20 years.

“Watkins abused a sacred trust when he chose to victimize this young girl,” Cooke said in a statement. “He didn’t count on her being brave enough to come forward and testify to what he did. Thanks to her courage…he won’t ever do this again.”

The trial started on Monday and it lasted four days.
