Macon man arrested for snatching purse at Walmart

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Bibb County deputies arrested a Macon man after he grabbed a woman’s purse.

Davontae Dewayne Williams, 20, is charged with one count of robbery by snatching, and one count of attempt to commit robbery.

The incident happened around 9 a.m., Tuesday, in the Walmart parking lot on row 10, located at, 6020 Harrison Road.

Patricia Mccarty, 75, and Loretta Walker, 70, both of Lizella told deputies they were walking to Walker’s Ford Freestyle when they were reportedly approached by Williams. The women say while struggling with him,  he hit Mccarty in the head and ran away with her purse.

The women were treated at the scene by EMS workers.

The purse snatching was caught on Walmart surveillance camera video.

Bibb County Sheriff Sgt. Steve Gatlin found Williams in the 3800 block of Lafayette Drive, within 15 minutes of the crime.

The women identified Williams as the assailant and he was taken into custody and transported to the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center.
