Macon man arrested for shooting at Mercer University police officer

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A Macon man is facing several charges after he shot at a police officer early Thursday morning.

The Bibb Sheriff’s Office says a Mercer student spotted a someone inside his car near the old engineering building off Prince Street at Mercer University.

A Mercer University police officer responded to the scene. The suspect, 33-year-old Kimyatus Jaque Hamilton, ran away and the officer chased after him. The sheriff’s office says Hamilton was about to run into the woods when he turned around and fired a gunshot at the officer. The officer was not hit.

The Bibb Sheriff’s Office assisted in the search to find Hamilton. He was spotted on Mercer University Drive near Elm Street at Jackson Street.

Hamilton was arrested and charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, entering auto, and a probation violation.

Hamilton is booked in the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center. He was denied bond.
