MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Macon-Bibb is gearing up for the second annual Macon Music Half Marathon, set to take place on Saturday, November 16, 2024.

Organizers announced event details on Wednesday at Luther Williams Field after more than 500 runners from 13 states participated in last year’s event.

“Many come from all different parts of the state and the country to be part of this half marathon that celebrates not only Macon-Bibb County but also our music culture that we’re very proud of,” Macon-Bibb Mayor Lester Miller said.

Visit Macon President and CEO Gary Wheat says the one-day event last year brought more than $125,000 in “direct revenue to our community.”

Starting and ending in Carolyn Crayton Park, formerly known as Central City Park, the race will take participants on a tour past iconic locations that highlight Macon’s deep musical roots.

The course, designed for runners, walkers and music enthusiasts, will feature landmarks such as the Grand Opera House, the Big House, Little Richard’s home, Capricorn Studios, the Otis Redding Foundation, and Mercer’s McDuffie Center for Strings.

This year’s course will feature the same landmarks as last year, with some sections moved to lower traffic areas, according to Macon Tracks Running Club President F.M. Barron.  “We will have more bands along the course and a surprise finish,” he said.

Macon Bacon President Brandon Raphael says the race will conclude with runners stepping on home plate at Luther Williams Field and that there will also be live music there from A2Z. “The entire facility is going to be open to those that are not only running but friends, family, supporters of the event can sit and hang out,” he said.

Registration for the event is open, with online and mail options available until November 15. Fees are structured to encourage early sign-up, starting at $70 through May 31, increasing to $75 through November 1, and $80 from November 2 until race day.

Participants are encouraged to register early to guarantee a commemorative wicking long-sleeve shirt in their size.
