UPDATE: Arrest made in connection with graduation party shooting that left 1 dead, 2 injured

Deputies say 30-year-old Ataraus Marrell Rouse faces murder and aggravated assault charges in the shooting that killed 25-year-old Jaurice Markel Haywood.

UPDATE (8/18/25): A man is in custody after U.S. Marshals arrested him in connection to a homicide investigation, according to a news release from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators identified 30-year-old Ataraus Marrell Rouse as a suspect in the killing of 25-year-old Jaurice Markel Haywood of Macon, as well as the aggravated assault of 24-year-old Jatorian Burton and 23-year-old Tyress Rivers, the release said.

Rouse was taken into custody Monday afternoon in Jones County by the U.S. Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force, according to the sheriff’s office. He was then taken to the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center.

The sheriff’s office said Rouse is charged with murder and aggravated assault. He is being held without bond at this time.


ORIGINAL STORY (5/17/25):

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – One man is dead and two others are hospitalized after a shooting early Saturday morning in the 1500 block of Williamson Road, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

A sheriff’s office news release says deputies responded to the area just before 2:30 a.m. and found three men with gunshot wounds.

Coroner Leon Jones said the shooting happened at a graduation party around 2:26 a.m.

25-year-old Jaurice Markel Haywood of Macon was pronounced dead on the scene by Deputy Coroner Ronnie Miley. His family has been notified.

According to Jones, 23-year-old Jetorin Burton was taken to Atrium Health Navicent with multiple gunshot wounds and is in critical condition. Jones said 24-year-old Tyrese Rivers was also shot multiple times and is listed in stable condition.
