Macon Health Dept. offering free car seat inspections

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – There’s a long list of rules to follow for new parents installing car seats.

The Macon-Bibb Health Department is doing its part to help meet those guidelines, offering free car seat inspections on the second Wednesday of each month.

“I ask questions about the child, how old are they, how much do they weigh to make sure it is the correct seat,” Stephanie Hyman said. “I also look at the seat, check the date just to make sure it isn’t expired because car seats do expire in six years.”

Hyman is the Safe Kids of Central Georgia Coordinator for the health department. She says most parents are unaware of all the safety guidelines that come with installing a car seat. She began the program earlier this year after having a child of her own.

Hyman will continue offering free car seat inspections and help with installation the second Wednesday of each month, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m outside of the Macon-Bibb Health Department building.
