Macon Heads ‘Out 2 Lunch’
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Sizzling bacon, fresh vegetables served daily, and sweets made from scratch are what you can expect when you head Out 2 Lunch.
Out 2 Lunch owner Bobby English says, “Everything we do here is as homemade as we can make it…that’s just the way we do things.”
He says if he won’t eat it, he won’t serve it. English has been in the food service business since 1975 and when he left the Sunshine State for the Georgia peaches, he brought his menu to share.
“I thought it could use another place where things were done fresh, staff was friendly, prices were reasonable,” says English.
Picnic benches inside the restaurant add to the casual atmosphere and make for a convenient break from work.
Customer Angela Slappey says, “Some of us only get 30 minutes to an hour, it’s very nice to have a place to be able to run to get food and be able to get back and have a break from the office.”
Rhonda Smith says she heads ‘Out 2 Lunch’ at least once a week. “Well it’s nice to be able to come and sit and relax and if you only have a lunch hour, you can get back to work on time, no stress, no problems.”
Sweet treat Fridays draw in a big crowd according to English.
He says, “Every fifth customer gets a free dessert, that’s your choice. Cookies, brownies, a piece of cake, whatever we have on the counter it’s yours.”
The Pineapple Surprise Cake is a neighborhood favorite. It’s a moist yellow cake, made with apple sauce instead of water, crushed pineapples, vanilla pudding, and a whipped topping.
Customers agree, “Out 2 Lunch” is more than just a catch phrase.
Out 2 Lunch Pineapple Surprise Cake:
1 yellow cake mix
1/2 cup apple sauce (in place of water)
1 stick butter
Combine and bake for 30-35 minutes at 350 degrees
Poke holes using a straw in finished cake
Top with 1 can of crushed pineapples
Then top with 5.25 oz. of vanilla pudding (use 2 cups of milk, instead of 3)
Chill for an hour and top with Cool Whip and serve.
