Macon, Gray officials urge water conservation as Georgia enters Level 1 drought response
Officials say water systems remain stable but encourage residents to cut back on usage

JONES COUNTY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Georgia Environmental Protection Division has declared a Level 1 drought response across the state.
The first level of drought response focuses on public awareness and voluntary water conservation. Officials recommend fixing leaks, cutting back on water use, and only watering outdoors between 4 p.m. and 10 a.m.
Macon Water Authority Communications Specialist Rachad Hollis says recent dry conditions prompted the response, but Macon’s water supply remains stable with no impact to customers.
“We are in a level one drought, and this is basically about awareness and conservation for our customers,” he said. “There’s no restrictions; we just want to make our customers aware that there are ways that you could save on water usage.”
In Gray, Superintendent Cheyenne Morgan with the city’s water department says they are following state guidelines and focusing on educating the public.
“Being good stewards of water conservation, don’t leave faucets running while you’re brushing your teeth… it’s just conserve water,” Morgan said.
Officials say there are currently no mandatory restrictions in place, but they encourage residents to take small steps now to conserve water.
