Macon daycare holds balloon release for toddler found dead in Lake Tobesofkee

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A Macon childcare center held a balloon release in memory of the toddler who was found dead in Lake Tobesofkee Sunday.

The Childcare Network Center #228 located on Sheraton Drive hosted the balloon release Tuesday night. Teachers, parents, and staff were there to remember three-year-old Dylan Walsh.

Daycare leaders tell 41NBC Walsh attended the facility for two years. They described him as an energetic boy who loved to play and who loved everyone. The director says this was the facilities way to show support for his family during this difficult time.

“It was like he was one of our own,” Tandrea Watkins, the daycare’s director said. “Everyone here was hurt, including parents and staff, and we all just want to send our love and more than anything we’re just more concerned for the family.”

Macon-Bibb County Fire Department divers found the three-year-old unresponsive and submerged underwater in the lake near one of the docks behind the Fish N’ Pig restaurant Sunday morning. Walsh was pronounced dead at the scene. Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones says the autopsy is pending.

Investigators with the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the toddler’s death.

The sheriff’s office initially conducted a search for Walsh. It was reported that he went missing from the dock area of the restaurant on Mosely Dixon Road around 11 p.m. Saturday. Investigators say he was looking at boats with his father.
