Macon churches serve up Easter spirit with lunch

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – It rained out most of the Easter egg hunts around Middle Georgia Saturday, but that didn’t stop a group of Macon churches from celebrating the spring holiday.

“It’s a lot more than a meal,” said attendee Donzay Clark.

And on the day before Easter, a meal can mean a lot.

“It’s about unity, coming together as a community,” said Clark.

“Precious, wonderful, servants of the Lord. They’re just like angels,” said another attendee.

Ebenezer Baptist Church, along with seven other churches, came together to host a meal for anyone and everyone Saturday afternoon.

They did it for no particular reason–just spreading the love.

“Each of the eight churches has sent out volunteers from each of their different ministries,” said Macedonia Baptist Church Minister Carlton Johnson. “So there’s about five volunteers or more from each of The Unity churches.”

Clark enjoyed the meal, but he found more than just good grub.

“It is hope,” said Clark. “It is hope for the people that may not have a hot meal.”

Hope and a different kind of food.

“Not only a meal, but also spiritual food,” said Clark.

It’s the kind of food that cares.

“But it’s very important that we come together as a body and let people know that there’s people out there that do care, you know, and that we’ve all been down some rough roads in our lives,” said Clark.

The rough roads that on the day before Easter have a chance to be smooth again.

“It’s more than just finding eggs and candy and dressing up nice for Church. It’s the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ,” said Clark.

One rainy day meal that’s brighter than you may think.

“It’s a rainy day on the outside, but the Sun is shining here,” said Johnson.

Johnson said the churches want to be a member of the community by helping in whatever way possible, especially at Easter.
