Macon Charter Academy students begin classes at Centreplex
The construction of the Macon Charter Academy is almost complete. The school will be offering the international baccalaureate program in grades K-8, where students will be focusing on global learning.
The school’s co-founder says students will kick off the first week of classes at the Macon Centreplex with a festival.
“We’re going to open with cultural displays, from each of those countries where those languages are spoken by natives. it’s the kind of things that lends itself to an arena atmosphere, that we have here at the coliseum,” explains Charles Rutland.
Teachers have already been participating in some training classes preparing for the school year.
“We’ve been going through training to integrate all of the subjects throughout the curriculum, and the focus is making sure that every child is the most important child,” adds Vinson Muhammad, a teacher at the academy.
Any Bibb County resident can attend, and tuition is free. However, the school will not provide transportation.
