Macon business owners prepare for crime
MACON. Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)- The holidays are quickly approaching which also means crime rates will begin to increase. Bibb County Sheriff’s Office says more commercial burglaries and robberies happen around this time.
West Bibb business owners are making sure that their businesses will not be affected. West Bibb County Business Watch has been holding meetings at Eagle Gun Range for about a year. Eagle Gun Range has been burglarized before.
“People will try to steal anything you have if you don’t watch it,” Owner of Eagle Gun Range Hamp Dowling said. “We’ve had break-ins and you do everything you can. and you build your frame work around yourself trying to protect it but the roaches will find a way in, eventually.”
Dowling is a member of the West Bibb County Business Watch. Local business owners get together once a month to talk about what’s going on in the community.
“We’ve had different speakers give different talks about different ways to be safe in your business and to be a business community instead of just single businesses,” Dowling said.
One of those speakers, Warren Selby, Chairman of the Board of Macon Regional Crimestoppers shared some tips with business owners.
“Making sure you have an alarm system, make sure you have cameras. you know, one of the things i said today is probably the best deterrence of crime both from residence to commercial are four legs and teeth,” Selby said. “Better known as dogs.”
He also said sharing information within the community is very important.
“That makes it real important and helps not only solve crimes but keep crimes down,” Selby said.
Crimestoppers and the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office urges people to report anything that looks suspicious, especially around the holidays.
