Macon Bicyclist Dies in Bus Accident

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A bicycle accident involving a Macon Transit Authority bus ends in a life lost.

According to Macon-Bibb coroner Leon Jones, 50-year-old bicyclist Tony Bateman died around 10:50 Tuesday morning.

Police say Bateman and 52-year-old Stanley Jones, the driver of the MTA bus, crossed paths near the southbound lanes of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Bateman was struck by the front of the bus, leaving him unconscious.

He was then transported to the Medical Center for severe injuries after he was hit by the bus and checked in for multiple blunt force trauma injuries.

During the time of the incident, there were two passengers on the bus, but no other injuries were reported.

According to the Bibb County Sheriff’s office, no charges are being filed at this time against Jones.

The investigation is ongoing.
