Macon-Bibb’s 5X5 program kicks off in District 5

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Macon-Bibb County is focusing its clean up efforts in the area off Mercer University Drive and Anthony Road.

Leaders kicked off the 5X5 program Monday in District Five represented by Commissioner Bert Bivins.

Several agencies, including public works, the Macon-Bibb Fire Department, animal welfare, parks and beautification, engineering, the EMA, and many others will concentrate their efforts for the next five weeks into sprucing up that section of town.

Assistant County Manager Steve Layson tells 41NBC crews will cut the grass on vacant lots, paint the curbs, put up new signs, mark house numbers on the roads, install smoke detectors, pick up trash, and place a dumpster in the neighborhood for the residents to use.

Layson hopes this will encourage the residents to take care of their community.

“We hope to energize the neighborhood, to get the neighbors involved, get them to where we leave they actually continue the process of taking pride in their community and just wanting to help out,” he said.

Crews will be out cleaning up District 5 until October 31st.
