Macon-Bibb seeks families to claim cremated remains of 232 people

Written claims must be filed by November 23. The county has released a full list, and unclaimed remains will be scattered at Historic Rose Hill Cemetery.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Macon-Bibb County is asking families and loved ones to file claims by November 23 for the cremated remains of 232 people in its care.

The county released a list of the remains Wednesday, including names and approximate dates of death, cremation or when the remains were received. The full list appears below.

According to the release, any remains not claimed by the deadline will be scattered in a dedicated memorial garden at Historic Rose Hill Cemetery in a memorial ceremony like this one in 2024. A date and time for that ceremony have not been set.

Relatives and others with a legitimate interest in claiming the remains must file a written response with the Bibb County Superior Court Clerk’s Office at 601 Mulberry St. in Macon.

The county says the response should include:

• At the top of the document: “Civil Action Number 2026-CV-084941.”
• Below that: “Answer of [your full name].”
• A phone number, mailing address and email address for the person filing.
• The name of the person whose cremated remains they are seeking to claim.
• A brief explanation of their relationship or connection to that person, or their interest in the remains.
• The statement: “I have served a copy of this Answer on Macon-Bibb County by mailing or emailing a copy to the address provided in the public notice.”
• A signature and date.

Along with filing the response with the clerk’s office, a copy must also be mailed or emailed to Anna M. Kersey-Weckstein with the Macon-Bibb County Attorney’s Office.
