Macon-Bibb to open pools and splash pads Saturday, May 24 as summer heats up

Macon-Bibb County is opening select pools and splash pads May 24, with more locations expected later this summer following SPLOST-funded renovations.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Macon-Bibb County will open several pools and splash pads on Saturday, May 24.

According to a news release, the pools at South Bibb Recreation Center (7035 Houston Road) and Booker T. Washington Recreation Center (401 Monroe Street) will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. Beginning Tuesday, they will follow regular hours of 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Friday.

Pools at Frank Johnson, Memorial Park and Delores A. Brooks Recreation Centers remain closed as renovations continue through Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) funding. According to the release, these pools are scheduled to open later this summer.

Splash pads will also open on May 24 at the following locations: Daisy Park (1021 Daisy Park), Freedom Park (3301 Roff Ave), South Bibb Recreation Center (7035 Houston Road) and Rosa Jackson Recreation Center (1211 Maynard Street). The splash pad at Filmore Thomas Park will open later this summer after renovations are complete.

The county is still hiring lifeguards. The position pays $14 per hour for 35 to 40 hours of work each week. Click here to apply.
