South Bibb Recreation Complex shares pool safety reminders ahead of Memorial Day weekend
The South Bibb Recreation Complex is reminding swimmers of pool safety rules as public pools open across Macon-Bibb County for Memorial Day weekend.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — As Middle Georgia families head to the water to start summer break, officials at the South Bibb Recreation Complex are reminding swimmers about pool safety protocols ahead of Memorial Day weekend.
Recreation operations manager James Bell says the facility has been preparing for an influx of families now that school is out.
“What we provide for the kids when they come here to swim is a safe environment,” Bell said. “Our staff are American Red Cross certified lifeguards.”
Bell said safety is the top priority, especially for younger swimmers.
“We also provide life jackets for the little ones who, their swimming abilities might be questionable, or not as strong, so we do provide life jackets at some of our pools,” he said.
He also outlined weather-related safety procedures.
“If there’s lightning that strikes, we will have to clear the pool, wait thirty minutes before we can clear back into the pool,” he said.
The safety reminders come as public pools across Macon-Bibb County prepare to open for the season.
