Macon-Bibb officials approve water park at Lake Tobosofkee
Commissioners recently approved the water park to be built at Sandy Beach Park at Lake Tobosofkee.
A private company, Spirit of America Theme Park and Development, will foot the bill for $2.7 million project.
Doc Dougherty, Macon-Bibb’s Park and Recreation Director, says it’s an opportunity to bring more foot traffic to the city and to the lake.
“Instead of our residents going to other areas to enjoy themselves and have recreational activities, we’re now looking at the future of coming in here and this water park is the first step,” Dougherty said.
The local government will pay nearly $250,000 to renovate the area and lay down the foundation for the park to be built.
That money is coming from a budget set aside for lake projects.
To be clear, the water park will not be on the lake itself, but a few hundred feet away inside Sandy Beach Park.
