MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Derrick Jordan, the Chief Human Resources Officer for Macon-Bibb County, has resigned from his position, effective immediately. Jordan announced his resignation in a letter to Mayor Lester Miller on Friday, writing that “prevailing winds whisper in alternative directions.”

“It has truly been an honor of a lifetime to have had an opportunity and I have you to thank for it,” he wrote.

During his three-year term, Jordan wrote that his team achieved several significant milestones, including the implementation of the ACCG Retirement Services Program, the implementation and training for the Tyler Content Management system and the establishment of a new wellness program for Macon-Bibb employees.

Jordan wrote that the department also removed programs that delivered “inaccurate and undeliverable” service, such as Legal Shield/ID Shield and EAP Positive Innovations, and replaced them with services like ARAG and EAP Southern Behavioral.

Jordan also touted wage improvements and reestablishing Macon-Bibb’s sick leave bank.

He concluded his letter by thanking Mayor Miller and expressing hope that his team’s work has contributed to a better future for the county and its nearly 1,900 employees.

“My very best to you Sir as you continue to move our County forward into the next four years,” he wrote. Read the full letter here.

The county’s website lists Joveta Turner as interim director of Macon-Bibb’s Department of Human Resources. She previously served as assistant director.
