Macon-Bibb Fire Department breaks ground on new fire station

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Macon-Bibb County Fire Department and County Commissioners say they finally got what they wanted.

They broke ground on a new fire station in East Macon on Thursday.

Payed for by the SPLOST, construction on the Bert Bivins III Fire Station, located on Jeffersonville Road will begin immediately.

“You know it used to take an extra three to four minutes to get out to this part of the county,” Assistant Fire Chief Shane Edwards said. “Being a Class One fire department we strive to get to any location within three to four minutes so this is just going to be a great task for us.”

The new fire station will be staffed with fire fighters and EMS all 24 hours of each day.
