Macon-Bibb fire chief requesting to move two fire stations
Riggins says fire station No. 9 on Shurling Drive and fire station No. 3 on Forsyth Road are in excellent areas to service residents.
He says his firefighters are responding quickly and efficiently to emergency calls in their respective areas. But they both have small driveways which makes it difficult for the fire trucks to pull out into heavy traffic while responding to calls.
Both stations were built between the 40’s and 50’s, according to Riggins.
Riggins wants to keep the stations in their respective neighborhoods, but in different locations.
“What I’m concerned with now is having to relocate them, to an area where the station itself and the firefighters are not so much in harms way,” says Macon-Bibb Fire chief.
Riggins says it will cost nearly $1.8 million to move each fire station. He is awaiting approval to use Special Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) to fund the fire station’s relocations.
