Macon-Bibb County Opens Warming Center for Homeless

MACON, Georgia ( 41NBC / WMGT ) – Preparing for the cold. Temperatures will take another big dip tonight.

Macon-Bibb County is making sure they are taking care of those who are most in need.

A Warming Center is now open for the homeless and those with substandard heating in their homes. Those seeking warmth and shelter tonight can now go to the Salvation Army off Broadway Street.

Macon-Bibb County is also working with the American Red Cross and Macon-Bibb Parks and Recreation.

Emergency Management Agency Director Spencer Hawkins says, “If you’re already vulnerable if you’re sick or malnutrition or have any other [issues] it can hit you even harder and so what we want to make sure through these cold nights, here in Macon-Bibb County those that need the help, get the help.”

He also explains how people can stay all night if needed and wants people to stay warm and safe.
