Macon-Bibb County opens new Bert Bivins Fire Station & Sheriff Precinct

MACON, Georgia. (41NBC/WMGT) –The brand new, long-awaited fire station & sheriff precinct is ready to serve the Napier community.
The Bert Bivins Fire Station and Sheriff Precinct is officially open. The brand new facility is named after district 5 commissioner and long-time community leader Bert Bivins III.
“One of the things that we try doing at the board of commissioners, is to make sure everybody in the Bibb county area are at least 5 miles of a fire station,” says Bivins.
Macon-Bibb county fire chief Marvin Riggins says that the new facility will bring a greater impact to the community.

“It’s a wonderful feeling to be here and this community. We are apart of the fabricate in this community and we want it to be that way. That’s our motto. We believe in that. For us to be able to open today and unveil this great facility in the middle of this great neighborhood, is a wonderful thing for us. i think that it allows us to serve and protect the citizens,” says Riggins.

The facility replaced the breezy hill fire station on Forsyth street and the sheriff’s precinct.

The estimated cost to build the new fire station was more than two million dollars that was voted and approved through the special purpose local option sales tax.
