Macon-Bibb commissioners discuss the future of Macon Transit Authority

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Macon-Bibb County Commissioners discussed the next stop for Macon Transit Authority on Tuesday.

They’re trying to decide whether to continue having an authority over public transit around town or allowing county government to step in and take over.

Mayor Robert Reichert says federal funding delays are to blame for MTA running on fumes. Now, the commission is looking at other cities to see which model will fit Macon-Bibb best.

“The idea is to go around and check with other communities our size to say what do you do for transit how do you operate what’s the governance model? because there is a delay in receiving federal.”

The mayor and commissioners will put a committee together to study which model would work best. Reichert says the goal outside of that is to fix the mobile transit service’s money problems without raising prices on its riders.
