Macon-Bibb Citizen Advocacy bringing attention to the disabled with benefit concert

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A group in Macon is giving people who are disabled and at risk of being excluded, a friend.

Macon-Bibb Citizen Advocacy (MBCA) gives you the chance to form a relationship with nursing home residents, developmentally disabled people and young adults.

“So an advocate, when they get to know the person, they look at their situation, and kind of can see what this person needs in their life and they provide that,” Amanda Smith said.

MBCA holds their free Community Benefit Concert Friday night with a lineup of Macon’s best church choirs.

Smith, the group’s coordinator, says it’s an opportunity to celebrate the power of two people standing together as one. The concert will be held at 6:30 p.m. at Lizzie Chapel Baptist Church, located on Bartlett St.

Smith says there’s countless way to support someone with a disability, many of which have no family.
