Macon-Bibb begins Frank Johnson Community Center renovation

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Frank Johnson Community Center is getting almost a million dollars in upgrades.

The SPLOST dollars will pay for a complete center renovation. It includes a new entrance, computer lab and a gym makeover. The second phase of the project is a new weight room and playground equipment. Those additions will happen if a new SPLOST is approved.

“It will give us more opportunities where we can offer computer classes. With a new computer lab, we’ll be able to have instructor lead computer classes and teach kids how to use computers or even adults, seniors that want to know how to use computers. That option is available to us now,” said Reggie Moore, Macon-Bibb’s Parks and Recreation Director.

The swimming pool won’t be affected during construction. It will open Memorial Day weekend. The county expects the new center to be finished in less than a year.
