MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Macon Beer Fest, an annual event hosted by the Rotary Club of Downtown Macon, has broken a record for most prostate cancer screenings at a single Pints for Prostates event, the festival announced Thursday.

147 men were screened during this year’s festival in downtown Macon.

“The Macon Beer Fest does a wonderful job of educating their community about Prostate Cancer and providing screenings at a ‘Health Fair Disguised as a Beer Festival,'” founder of Pints for Prostates Rick Lyke said.

Festival organizer and Rotary Club of Downtown Macon member Steve Bell started the event in 2009 with the mission of making a positive impact in his community. He was driven by his own battle with prostate cancer at the age of 42.

Lyke urges those at risk to discuss screenings with their doctors starting at age 40, or 35 if high-risk factors are present.

Pints for Prostates appears at dozens of events across the United States each year, including beer festivals and gatherings at bars and breweries.
