Macon Area Habitat for Humanity dedicates two homes in recognition to World Habitat Day

MACON, GEORGIA (41NBC/WMGT) – In honor of World Habitat Day, Macon Area Habitat for Humanity dedicated two homes in Lynmore Estates to two families.

The special gift is giving the northern and Waller families a safe, decent and affordable place to call home.

“It’s just a wonderful exciting feeling,” says new homeowner Jamela Northern.

Young mothers like Jamela Northern, a mother of a little girl and Victoria Waller, a mother of five are now homeowners thanks to Macon Area Habitat for Humanity.

Northern says, “I’m living in my own home and becoming a homeowner at the age of 23, I’m just excited to start this new journey.”

Ivey Hall, Executive Director at Macon Area Habitat for Humanity says, “We know that safe stable home environment translates not only into the homeowner’s lives but it also helps their children come home to the same place every night and a place that they know that’s their own.”

Jamela says her daughter’s reaction about getting a new home warms her heart.

“It’s the most wonderful feeling in the world to know that she is excited and that she is amazed at what mommy could do for her,” Northern explains.

After 20 years with a zero percent interest, the families will be done paying off their homes. Macon Area Habitat for Humanity also celebrated the burning of four mortgages with four homeowers who paid their homes off after 20 years.
