Wilkinson County names Mack McCord head football coach
School leaders say McCord brings multi-sport experience as the program builds on recent playoff appearances.

IRWINTON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Wilkinson County High School has named a new head football coach as the program looks to build on recent playoff appearances.
Wilkinson County Schools announced Wednesday that Mack McCord has been hired as the Warriors’ next head coach.
According to a news release from Wilkinson County Schools, McCord most recently coached at Stone Mountain High School and brings experience across multiple sports, including football, basketball, baseball and volleyball.
McCord, a U.S. Army veteran from Trenton, earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and is expected to complete a master’s degree in kinesiology from the University of North Georgia this spring.
“I came here to not only win, but to build a program that the community can be proud of,” McCord said. “I am here to stay. This is my home.”
The hire comes after former head coach Jamoski Ward led the Warriors to back-to-back playoff appearances over the past two seasons, finishing with a 10-12 record overall.
Wilkinson County has reached the state playoffs in five of the last six seasons, though the team has not advanced past the second round during that stretch.
