Local dentist office giving kids cash for candy to send to troops

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A local dentist in Macon is buying candy from kids in the community for a good cause other than keeping the cavities away.

Dr. Sheilah Shah at Macon Smiles Dentistry will host her tenth annual “Candy Buy-Back” and purchase candy from trick or treaters for a dollar per pound.

The sweet treats they get will go to American troops overseas through an organization called Operation Shoe Box.

“People usually have a lot of candy and sweets start accumulating this time of year and after Halloween. There’s always leftovers and people are wondering what to do with that. So, bring it over here don’t eat all that candy let’s donate the candy and give it to a good cause,” Shah told 41NBC.

She says they’ll also be taking candy donations from adults. They won’t be giving cash in return for the adult donations, but she says you will get the satisfaction of doing a good deed.

You can drop off candy to the dentist office on Forsyth Road starting November 1st going up until the 8th.
