Local company uses downtime to help keep Macon beautiful

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A local company took to the streets Tuesday afternoon to do their part in keeping Macon beautiful.

31 employees of Freudenberg TexBond had a few extra moments while their plant closed down in order to clean equipment.

With the downtime, they decided to do a little bit of cleaning themselves, yet not on pieces of machinery, but at Macon’s Third Street Park.

“They were so excited,” said Keep Macon Beautiful president Pam Carswell. “They said it was like giving back something that they’ve never done before, or even thought about doing it.”

The 220 year-old German-based company, which uses recycled material to manufacture commercial roofing, has had a plant in Macon for 30 years and employs 114 people.

“It shows an awesome partnership between industries and communities,” Carswell said.

Carswell added that she hopes other companies in the area will be encouraged by Freudenberg’s volunteer work.
