Local company donates “brake” to Habitat for Humanity

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Habitat for Humanity now has the potential to save a lot of money in construction costs, thanks to a donation from a partner in the home building industry.

Siding Supply, Inc., a retailer of vinyl siding located at 3094 Broadway Street in Macon, provided a large, portable tool known as a “brake” to the local charity. The device, a Tapco Pro 14 model, is meant to bend and shape sheet metal and aluminum trim, used on the outer walls and exposed wood of a home’s exterior to prevent moisture build-up.

“It feels wonderful,” said Janet Plunkett, Vice President of Siding Supply, about the donation, “A few months ago, we started a fundraiser. Our customers… they donated, then Siding Supply matched the money and we were able to purchase the brand new brake and all of the accessories.”

The company and Habitat have partnered together for many years, according to Plunkett, “They have purchased about 30,000 feet of pre-fabricated trim from us, and now they’ll be able to make their own.”

The retail value of the brake is over $3000, and will be used by Habitat for Humanity for continued renovations in Macon’s Lynmore Estates, as well as other areas across the region.
