Local Church Holds 1st Annual MLK Celebration

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – One church celebrates and remembers the teachings of Dr. King at their 1st Annual MLK Celebration.

New Hope Missionary Baptist Church held the event to commemorate the life of MLK.

Event coordinator, Shevis Perry, says more than 1,000 people turned out to remember King’s life and fellowship with members of their church.

Perry added, the songs, dances and presentations at the event not only pay homage to King, but serve as a reminder his message lives on.

“Dr. King paved the way, especially for African Americans in society today. If it wasn’t for him we would not have the freedom that we have today, in society,” says Perry.
