Cirrus Academy Charter School – “From the Desk of our CEO/Superintendent: There is a threat of the potential severe weather in the Macon-Bibb county area on Friday, January 12, 2024. A line of strong to severe storms are expected to move in the area. This system has the potential for damaging winds, hail, and the possibility of tornadoes. The CACS Superintendent, Dr. Gail Fowler is coordinating with Macon-Bibb County Emergency Management Agency, and the National Weather Service to monitor alerts and conditions. As a precautionary measure for potential inclement weather in the Macon-Bibb County area, CACS will begin dismissal at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 12, 2024. ALL extracurricular activities ( i.e. football, dance practice) have been cancelled as well. Scholars that are absent on this day will not be penalized due to the inclement weather. Normal schedule will resume on Tuesday, January 16, 2024. Thank you for your assistance with ensuring the safety of our scholars and staff.”
Dooly County Schools – Previously scheduled Asynchronous Learning Day. “Please remember that tomorrow, Friday, 1/12/24 is an Asynchronous Learning Day for Dooly County students, and that all schools and offices will be closed Monday, 1/15/24 in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr’s Birthday, a federal holiday. Remember, it’s “a Day On, not a Day Off – A Day of Service.”

Piedmont Academy – “Piedmont Families, I hope this email finds you well. I am reaching out to inform you that, out of an abundance of caution, we have made the decision to close school tomorrow. This decision has been made with the safety of our students, faculty, and staff as our top priority. While the weather predictions for tomorrow morning may not be severe, there is inclement weather expected to come in as we dismiss. We do not want to put any of our students or parents in danger by having them on the road during potentially hazardous conditions. We understand that many of our families drive long distances, and our buses also cover significant mileage. While we have prepared for inclement weather and have added extra days to our school year, we believe that it is best to prioritize the safety of our students and staff by closing school for the entire day. As a result of this closure, we will not need to make up the two days that our students have missed this week. We have taken this into consideration to minimize any disruption to the academic calendar. We appreciate your understanding and support in this matter. Please stay safe tomorrow and take the necessary precautions to protect yourselves and your families. -CW”
Taylor County Schools – “The Taylor County School District will be closed Friday, January 12, 2024 due to concerns with transporting students safely.”
Thomaston-Upson Schools – “The TU School System has been monitoring weather reports and gathering the information necessary to make a very informed decision about tomorrow’s predicted storms. Our concerns are that the potential for afternoon thunderstorms, high wind gusts, and tornadoes could severely impact our afternoon release. In order to ensure that all students are safely at home prior to the severe weather, we will be releasing students immediately following lunchtime tomorrow, Friday, January 12. Release times for buses and parent pick-up are as follows: UL Pre-K and UL Alternative 11:30; UL Primary and UL Elementary 11:45; UL Middle and UL High School 12:15. Faculty and staff will be released at 1:15. Please know that the Thomaston-Upson School System will always put safety first when making decisions that affect our students and staff.”
