Passenger killed, Claxton man charged in I-16 bus stabbing

Deputies say a Claxton man was arrested after another passenger was fatally stabbed during an argument on a Flex Transport bus.

DUBLIN, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Laurens County Sheriff’s Office says a man is facing murder and assault charges after a deadly stabbing on a passenger bus traveling along Interstate 16.

According to a news release, deputies responded to I-16 near mile marker 47 on Saturday, October 18 after receiving reports of an assault aboard a Flex Transport bus. Investigators say two passengers began arguing during the trip, which ended with one person being stabbed.

Deputies made contact with the bus and arrested Dexter Smith of Claxton. The 25-year-old victim was taken to Fairview Park Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The sheriff’s office says the victim’s name is being withheld until family members are notified.

Smith was taken to the Laurens County Law Enforcement Center. The sheriff’s office says he is charged with murder, aggravated assault and possession of a weapon during the commission of a crime.

The case remains under investigation.
