Lake Tobesofkee shooting suspect charged with aggravated assault

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A 24-year-old man accused of shooting at fishermen on Lake Tobesofkee in March has now been charged with aggravated assault. District Attorney David Cooke issued a warrant for Basil Ghali Friday. He was arrested at his home on Lake Tobesofkee.

Ghali was originally charged with reckless conduct after Bibb Sheriff David Davis admitted several mistakes his deputies made the night of the incident that affected the case.

Earlier Friday, the fishermen who were shot at said they weren’t satisfied with the accused suspect’s reckless conduct charge. One of those fishermen, Shelby Smith, said he wishes the sheriff’s office would have done more.

The Bibb County Sheriff’s website says Ghali was released on Friday. He’s out on a $27,700 bond.
