Macon-Bibb Commissioners look at plans to potentially revamp Lake Tobesokfee
Plans would include the company taking over lake operations and bringing a unique camping experience.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Plans to revamp Lake Tobesofkee may make the area a destination for more tourists.
Macon-Bibb County Commissioners want to attract even more visitors.
“It’s good for property values. It’s good for our community. It’s good for lowering taxes,” Macon-Bibb Mayor Lester Miller said. “These projects help fund public safety because it’s additional monies that come into our community, so it’s a win win.”
Miller says the company, Lovejoy Capital, wants to make a $23 million investment. Plans would include the company taking over lake operations and bringing a unique camping experience.
“People can enjoy the nature there,” Miller said. “It’s very eco-friendly. Matter of fact, they use compost facilities there, and at the same time in the woods without disturbing the wooded area there will be some bridges you can walk through and some tree houses you can climb up into, an inclusive playground for kids that’s made out of wood and other things, so it’s very unique kind of perspective.”
He adds the old Sandy Beach Water Park that closed last year would become an interactive maze.
According to Miller, the plans project a nearly $1 million profit in the first year, and with the county handing over the lake’s responsibilities to Lovejoy, it’d save the county more than $4 million in its first year.
“Best part about it for citizens of Macon-Bibb County, not only is it going to help decrease the taxes we have here, but it’ll also help small businesses,” he said. “It’s going to protect the amount of money we pay there.”
The plans aren’t final. The county has 90 days to allow more plans to be submitted before commissioners revisit the idea and vote on any plans.
