Kumho Tire Plant expected to begin production in Macon in 2016

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Construction on the state of the art Kumho automotive plant will start again, after several years of delay from the recession.

Officials with Kumho Tire Co., along with Macon-Bibb Mayor Robert Reichert announced Tuesday afternoon that the $413 million plant is set to open in 2016.

Construction was delayed on the project because of the 2008 recession.

Macon-Bibb mayor Robert Reichert thinks placing the flagship North American location in Macon is big, not only for the city, but for the entire state.

“To have a corporation, an international corporation of the size, the stature, and the prestige of Kumho Tire Company, to locate here to our community it’s a very exciting development,” Reichert said.

Kumho Tire is expected to invest $413 million into the plant.

Production is scheduled to begin in January 2016.
