Knight Foundation announces four Macon finalists

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)- Four Macon groups are still in the running to win free money.  It’s part of the competitive Knight Cities Challenge.

Out of seven-thousand submissions nationwide, Spark Macon, The College Hill Alliance, Geoffrey Boyd, and Lakey Boyd could receive a portion of the five-million dollar winnings.

Applicants had to outline a plan on how they could improve their cities.  Ideas include providing funding for businesses and creating community volunteer groups.

“It’s a great example of bringing community together,to create entrepreneurship and let great ideas come to fruition,” says Beverly Blake, the Knight Foundation Program Director.

The Knight Foundation will have up to 126 winners nationwide.  It will make an announcement at the end of March.
