Justice for David Hooks rally held in Dublin

DUBLIN, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A large crowd gathered on the Laurens County courthouse steps for what organizers called a “Rally for Justice for David Hooks.”

Hooks supporters carried signs asking for Laurens County Sheriff William A. Harrell’s resignation.

One speaker after another explained what they described as an injustice by law enforcement.

Hooks’ supporters say they want the laws changed in how search warrants are executed.

Hooks was shot and killed by Laurens County deputies during a raid in his Dublin home. His wife, Teresa Hooks, recalled the night her husband died.

“They busted the door down, at that time David went around me into our den and I was going to go into the den behind him but before I could they had already fired off all the shots,” she said.

Some speakers at the rally included the Hooks’ attorney Mitchell Shook, David Hooks’ father Carl Hooks, U.S. senate candidate Derrick Grayson and attorney Catherine Bernard.
