Macon man sentenced to 10 years for domestic violence conviction

Joshua Gerell Huff was found guilty of false imprisonment and battery after assaulting his ex-girlfriend in 2022. The court sentenced him to 10 years, with seven to serve.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — A Bibb County jury has convicted a Macon man of false imprisonment and battery under Georgia’s family violence law, leading to a 10-year sentence, the Macon Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office announced Thursday.

Joshua Gerell Huff was sentenced to 10 years, with seven to serve in the Georgia Department of Corrections, after jurors found him guilty on Tuesday.

The charges stem from a March 24, 2022 incident in which Huff unlawfully entered his ex-girlfriend’s home, refused to leave and physically assaulted her when she tried to escape, according to the DA’s office.

Prosecutors Amber Cook and Kayla Callaway presented evidence that Huff became distracted by the victim’s six-year-old daughter, allowing the woman to flee before he chased her and inflicted visible injuries, including facial abrasions, a bloody nose and swollen hands. Huff also took the victim’s house keys before leaving the scene.

The victim testified during trial, sharing her experience and ongoing fear of Huff. The court issued the sentence immediately after the verdict was read.

“Domestic violence casts a long shadow of fear that doesn’t simply disappear with time,” District Attorney Anita Howard said. “This verdict sends a clear message that our community will not tolerate such violations of safety and dignity within our homes. I commend the courage of this survivor for standing up against her abuser and helping us hold him accountable for his actions. Our Office remains committed to aggressive prosecution of domestic violence cases and supporting victims as they rebuild their lives free from fear.”

The DA’s office encourages anyone experiencing abuse to contact local law enforcement or the Crisis Line and Safe House of Central Georgia, available 24/7 at (478) 745-9292.
