Investigation continues after train strikes pedestrian in Jones County

Investigators say the collision appears accidental, and the investigation is ongoing.

JONES COUNTY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Jones County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate after a train struck a pedestrian over the weekend.

Deputies say it happened Saturday afternoon in the 200 block of Parker Drive and was reported by Norfolk Southern. According to deputies, the pedestrian was taken to Atrium Health Navicent for treatment.

On Sunday, the sheriff’s office identified the pedestrian as 29-year-old Quintez Hargrove of Jones County. Deputies say Hargrove remains in critical condition in the intensive care unit.

According to investigators, the collision appears to have been an accident, but the investigation remains ongoing. A final determination will be made after investigators receive and review camera footage from the train.

Preliminary information indicates Hargrove was walking his dog on the railroad tracks and may have been wearing earbuds while listening to music, which could have prevented him from hearing the train approaching. Deputies say the dog did not survive.

The sheriff’s office says additional updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
