UPDATE: Husband charged after side-by-side crash killed woman in Jones County

The Jones County Sheriff’s Office says the crash happened early on December 28.

UPDATE (1/13/26): The Jones County Sheriff’s Office says the husband of a woman killed in a side-by-side crash in December has been charged following a criminal investigation.

According to the sheriff’s office, investigators determined that drugs and alcohol may have contributed to the December 28 crash on Barron Russell Road and that evidence at the scene had been tampered with in an apparent attempt to conceal it. Based on those findings, investigators started a criminal investigation.

The sheriff’s office says Zachary Schwartz, the husband of the victim, has been charged with first-degree vehicular homicide, DUI less safe, DUI refusal, possession of marijuana and reckless driving. Deputies say Schwartz turned himself in on Monday.

The crash killed 31-year-old Allison Schwartz, who was pronounced dead at the scene after being ejected from the side-by-side.


UPDATE (12/28/25): According to an update from the sheriff’s office, the crash happened at about 2:30 a.m.

Deputies identified the victim as 31-year-old Allison Schwartz of Forsyth. They say she was riding the side-by-side with her husband when it struck a “very recently fallen” tree in the road.

JONES COUNTY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A woman was killed early Sunday morning in a single-vehicle crash involving a side-by-side on Barron Russell Road.

The Jones County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post around 4 a.m. that the side-by-side struck a fallen tree in the roadway. The woman died at the scene.

No additional details about the woman or the circumstances surrounding the crash have been released.

The crash remains under investigation.
