High-speed chase in Jones County ends with arrest of man hiding in crawl space
Deputies say Warrick Wayne McElroy reached speeds of 115 mph during a chase through Jones County before running and hiding under a house.

GRAY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A high-speed chase that reached 115 miles per hour ended in a Jones County neighborhood Monday, where deputies arrested a man found hiding in a crawl space, according to the Jones County Sheriff’s Office.
While patrolling Highway 49 near Pioneer Road, a deputy saw a red Mercedes with a tinted windshield and license plate cover, the sheriff’s office said in a Facebook post. As he turned around to make a traffic stop, deputies say the driver, identified as Warrick Wayne McElroy, acted as if he were turning toward Wilkinson County at Highway 18 but then swerved back and continued heading south on Highway 49.
The sheriff’s office says the driver turned on his hazard lights but refused to stop. When the deputy activated his siren, the car sped up, weaving through traffic, passing vehicles on a solid yellow line and hitting speeds of more than 100 mph.
The chase went through heavy traffic and eventually into a neighborhood, where the driver ran off the road near Mattie Wells Drive, got out and ran, according to the sheriff’s office. Deputies later found him hiding in a crawl space under a home thanks to a tip from a neighbor.
Deputies say McElroy is charged with felony fleeing and attempting to elude, obstruction of an officer and possession of drug-related objects. He also received several traffic citations, including reckless driving, driving with a suspended license and speeding.
