GRAY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)  – Two people are in custody after leading Jones County deputies on a high-speed chase Wednesday, tossing drugs from their vehicle and trying to run before they were caught.

According to a Facebook post by the Jones County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy spotted a vehicle failing to maintain its lane on Joycliff Road. The deputy activated his blue lights and siren to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver, later identified as Christopher Sergeant, sped away.

During the chase, Sergeant turned onto Gray Highway, speeding northbound toward Gray, and threw a bag from the vehicle. The chase continued onto Graham Road, Huckabee Road, Highway 18 West and eventually toward the Gray Bypass. Deputies anticipated the route and placed spike strips near Oakview Drive. Sergeant turned onto Oakview Drive and became trapped at a dead-end on Crestview Trace. That’s when he pulled behind a house before getting stuck.

After a brief foot chase, deputies took Sergeant and his passenger, Kayla Zarecky, into custody. Deputies learned Sergeant was wanted on a parole violation from Ohio. Both Sergeant and Zarecky had marijuana, THC oil and Suboxone in their possession, according to the post.

“Christopher is charged with several offenses related to fleeing, while both will face several local drug charges due to the incident,” the post said.

Both suspects remain in custody at the Jones County Jail. Gray police officers assisted deputies in the incident.
