MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Jonathan Fisher has announced his intent to run for the Bibb County School Board at-large seat, Post 8, currently held by Dr. Lisa W. Garrett-Boyd.

Fisher tells 41NBC he will make his official campaign announcement at 10 a.m. Saturday, January 31, in front of the Bibb County Board of Education building on Mulberry Street in downtown Macon.

According to a news release, Fisher was a student in the school district and has also worked as a substitute, coach and paraprofessional. The release says his candidacy is “rooted in firsthand classroom experience.”

Fisher outlined priorities for his campaign, including fiscal responsibility, transparency, safe learning environments and stronger academic outcomes.

He says he opposes tax increases, supports property tax cuts “whenever possible” and supports school choice. He’s also calling for “orderly and secure learning environments for students and teachers.”

The release also mentions “budget cuts from central office, not classrooms.”

Fisher is the founder of LightShine Promotions, a Georgia-based nonprofit that he says supports families, students and community causes through outreach and partnerships.

The primary election is scheduled for May 19.
