Jeff Gordon wins pole for Vegas race
LAS VEGAS, Nevada (41NBC/WMGT) – Jeff Gordon is on the pole for Sunday’s Kobalt Tools 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
The four-time Sprint Cup Series champion followed a disappointing weekend at Atlanta with a new track record during qualifying Friday, running a 194.679 mph lap on the 1.5 mile speedway.
It’s Gordon’s second pole this season. He also started first in the Daytona 500.
The 43-year-old led 87 laps at Daytona before being caught up in a late crash and finishing 33rd. He was involved in another crash at Atlanta, slamming nearly head-on into a non-SAFER barrier and finishing 41st.
Unadilla’s David Ragan will start 13th Sunday.
